The New york Times reports that recent studies by psychologists Karina Schumann, Jamil Zaki and Carol S. Dweck found that when people learned that empathy was a skill that could be improved, and not a personality trait, they were moved to practice more empathy. How heartening to know that by simply attending to learning and practicing empathy, we can become more empathetic. Nonviolent Communication offers many tools to connect with our own inherent empathy, learn how to access empathy with more ease, and find ways to practice empathy on a daily basis.

Currently, CCAA is hosting certified NVC trainers to lead workshops, support and promote local NVC events, connect those interested in growing NVC community, and create opportunities for collaboration and shared experiences utilizing NVC with joy and ease.

Next up in Ann Arbor is Nonviolent Communication: Quick Solutions for Difficult Situations, held at Crazy Wisdom Bookstore and Tearoom on Main Street in downtown Ann Arbor, Wednesday evening, Dec. 17 at 7p. This is a free event, open to everyone, to share helpful tips and practical suggestions  for cultivating self-empathy and self-calming, reducing conflict with ease and grace, improving communication with others, and finding meaningful solutions for difficult and stressful situations.
